MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (WMUR) — A snowboarder narrowly escaped a human-triggered avalanche in Tuckerman Ravine on Wednesday morning.
A video from the summit of Wildcat Mountain exhibits the snowboarder outrunning the avalanche by seconds.
Specialists mentioned Tuesday’s freezing temperatures doubtless contributed to the snow sliding.
Avalanches are extra widespread this time of 12 months as winter transitions to spring.
They are often triggered by new or delicate snow, quickly warming temperatures, and gusty winds.
Step slopes stay vulnerable to avalanches all through the winter, together with areas on Mount Washington comparable to Jap Snowfields, Huntington Ravine, Tuckerman Ravine, Hillman’s Freeway and Gulf of Slides.
To this point this season, about 60 avalanches have been recorded, together with 41 in February.
